New Leadership, New Vision Mark New Threshold for Pain Treatment Center at Pittsburgh’s Ohio Valley Hospital.
Hospital competes and wins when highly recruited doctor agrees to lead program.
Kennedy Township, PA, November 3, 2006 – David A. Provenzano, M.D. has accepted the position of Medical Director at the Hospital’s new Pain Treatment Center in Robinson Township. A recent fellow at the prestigious Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he was also offered a permanent position, Dr. Provenzano was recruited nationally by other leading centers, but chose Ohio Valley General Hospital (Ohio Valley) because of its proven commitment to the communities it serves.
“This Hospital is committed to providing the staff, the facility and the resources that will allow us to offer some of the best and newest techniques available for the treatment of chronic pain,” said Dr. Provenzano. “I’m excited about this opportunity and will dedicate all my efforts to establishing this Center among the best not only in Pittsburgh, but nationwide.”
With a resume that highlights extensive clinical expertise, research, authorship and speaking engagements nationwide, Dr. Provenzano has experience in virtually every aspect of successful pain evaluation and treatment. He has been a principal investigator on multiple drug development clinical trials, and has authored a discussion on anesthesia techniques and published several national articles that cover a wide range of pain topics. Dr. Provenzano has also spoken and lectured throughout the U.S. and most recently presented a topic at Dartmouth-Hitchcock that will soon become a specialty for pain relief at the Ohio Valley Pain Treatment Center: Spinal Stimulation and Intrathecal Pumps.
At the Pain Treatment Center’s new, dedicated location adjacent to the Hospital, he intends to incorporate a multidisciplinary approach that offers patients the best and newest treatment options combined with specialized technology that delivers the best outcomes for pain management and recovery of function. Near future plans call for a Special Procedures Suite with a state-of-the-art fluoroscopy machine where specialized treatments such as lumbar discography, radiofrequency, nerve blocks and epidural steroid injections will be offered.
100 Years of Getting Better
Ohio Valley’s commitment to excellence in patient care spans 100 years. From humble beginnings in 1906, when the Hospital was chartered, to today’s new Pain Treatment Center, as well as a new multi-million dollar Surgical & Maternity Center, Ohio Valley has remained committed to its mission of providing the community with a personalized approach to the highest quality of specialized health care. Ohio Valley was the nation’s first hospital to implement a system that virtually eliminates intravenous medication errors through the use of barcoding and “smart infusion” technology. Through a generous gift from the Irene E. Fritzky Family, Ohio Valley has also implemented an advanced patient information safety system that streamlines the way physicians’ access important information about their patients. Ohio Valley’s commitment to providing the best quality of health care for all stages of life is exemplified by its creation of The Residence at Willow Lane, an assisted living facility which is located across the street from the Hospital at 30 Heckel Road.
